I'm Back!

Hey everyone.. its me again :)  It's Sunday around noon and my parents are here keeping me company as usual.  I don't know what I would do without them.  Being in the hospital in any situation is not fun, we all know that but- they're here everyday rooting me and helping with things that sometimes aren't so fun.  I look forward to seeing them everyday.  It was especially helpful in the ICU because there wasn't much to do there besides lay around and feel bad for other sick people that weren't doing as well as me.  It was kind of like watching ER without turning on the tv.  Anyways, they also were able to print me out some of the blog comments and hold them up for me to read in the ICU when I was trying to be distracted during on the my scopes.  They do this frequently to check if the new organs (mainly the intestines) are being accepted as they are supposed to be.  The blog comments were so helpful and everybody is so kind and sweet and supportive as always.  I can't thank everyone enough from the bottom of my heart.  Also someone I will never ever be able to thank enough is the donor family.  I'm actually kind of speechless and unsure of what to say on this topic, its still a rough one for me to deal with but I obviously wouldn't be here without that contribution.
On the lighter side-  it's nice to be up in my own room out of the ICU.  The ICU doesn't really go to sleep so you get better rest up here.  The other night I woke up at 2am and I actually wasn't sure if it was 2 am or pm until I asked because everything is always up and moving.  I'm also able to get back to my beloved computer up here :)  It's nicer to because my parents didn't have much room to move down, and now they have more space to move and be comfortable up here.  This morning I walked around a bit with the physical therapist and I plan to again once more with them before I have to get pre-medicated with benedryl before one of my drugs (it makes me take a nap) :).   For the next few days nothing new with happen.  We will continue to make sure I get up and move around.  It's also VERY important for me to keep filling my lungs up.  There is this small breathing tool that I use to help me fill up my lungs.  This is super super important to do and I have to make sure I'm constantly doing it all day long.  You can develop many complications that can be very serious with your lungs that would be very problematic.
Anyways- this is about all the info I think I can give right now, and pretty much all you feel like reading!  I hope this gave everyone a little hello from me and update on whats new.  I'll try and put one up again in a few days.  Also I met a really nice person here named Julie before my tranplant, and she's also waiting for some organs herself.  I would appreciate if everyone can take a break from my prayers and send some lover her way.  I hope to see her up on the floor with me soon and we can take walks together :)  Once again thanks for everything everybody,
Lots and lots and lots of love!!!!

Sammy!
I can't believe we're hearing from you less than a week after the surgery! Do you have any idea what an inspiration you've been to me? I am so astounded by your strength, love, and optimism in every moment. So many people at Vandy who you don't even know have been praying for you so much these past few weeks and I'm elated at how fast everything has changed this past week. God is so great! And although I know the family who lost their loved one is hurting, through their loss of life they've been able to give you your life back. I'll be praying for Julie - and you, of course!
Big love from TN,
Karen

You touch my heart every time I read your blog. I have been keeping up with your journey through it and through Kira and Mrs. Sanders from the start. Having watched you grow up since kindergarten, none of your spirit should surprise me, but yet it does. Sammy, you and your family are amazing...your strength and optimism alone speaks for itself through all the adversity!! I am so proud of you and sooooo happy for you. I forward your blog entries to about 15 people every time you write something. None of them know you or your family and every single one of them loves you!! You keep up the hard work, and we will all keep praying for you and for Julie. Say hi to your parents!

Love,
Kathy Walstrom

My name is Kendall Ciesemier. I am a sophomore at Wheaton North. I am one of Cameron Hepburn's family friends. I have met your sister Carissa and actually gone to Lake Geneva with her as well. I am a post liver transplant 2x patient. I kinda know what your going through. By the sound of your update you seem to be doing well. Yes, I agree, the ICU is like watching ER on t.v. and day is night and night is day there. Feel free to e-mail me. We can swap war stories. Hang in there!

Good morning Sam

It's great to hear from you. Your parents did a great job of keeping us updated! You are a remarkable young lady! Keep walking and doing your breathing. Because of the generous gift from your donor family, I looked into organ donation(i use to be registered). I found out I can still can be a donor. So I registered.

You and Julie will be in our thoughts and prayers!

Dear Sammy,

I sent an e-mail at the crack of dawn and I can't find it. I think the computer ate it. So here I go again. You give me strength. Your writing is incredibly uplifting and when you publish your book I would like to be the first to give you financial support. Our prayers have been and will always be with you. You made me cry and laugh at the same time earlier this morning. You are truly one of the toughest woman I know!
We love you,

It's SOOO good to hear from you on the blog! I can't even begin to tell you how happy we are with your progress. It's like we want to jump up and down and high five each other all day long. We know how strong and determined, both physically and mentally, you are and that you will keep the lung thing going. Sharon's mom had to do that for a while after her lung surgury and we know it isn't easy, but it does work!! We Love You Soooo Much!!!

Hi Sammy, you don't know my husband and I but we know your dad and mom through Terry Podgorski. I am his sister. Anyway, I have been reading your blog and praying for your speedy recovery and it looks like God is answering those prayers. You are truly amazing-your attitude is remarkable. I am sure it will rub off on Julie too and she will thank you after her transplant for being such an inspiration. Take care, breath deep and fill your lungs like they say to do and know that people in Arlington Heights are rooting for you. God Bless, Sandy Miller

Hi Sam,

I wanted to reach out and pass along a congrats on your successful transplant. That truly is a miracle! You've obviously touched and inspired a great number of people and just think how proud the donor family will be to know that their loved one's life is being carried on through your gift of life.

I hope the recovery is swift!
