Back in SICU

First of all Sam's new organs appear to be doing Great!  The bad news is Sam is suffering from the complications of having major surgery.  First it was a pneumothorax, where they had to put a tube in her side to relieve pressure on her lung.  However she was still having increasing pain Sunday night and Monday morning.  Then early Monday morning to try and relieve some of the pain she thought she try and take another walk.  As soon as she stood up she had a little episode including difficulty breathing. That got the attentions of a lot of people and she was rushed back into SCIU.  The doctor were concerned  she could be suffering from a pulmonary embolism. After numerous tests and scans they fortunately ruled that out.  They believed the difficulty was the result of fluid build up.  Tuesday morning the Doctors went back in for what they call a wash out procedure.  They drained the fluids and did little repair jobs on the leaks. While they were in there they cleaned and checked out the rest of the system.  She should be good to go for another 100, 000 thousand miles. The Doctors informed us that this was a routine procedure and one of many little set backs we will experience over the next few months. Sam's surgery lasted about three hours and she had a pretty miserable afternoon and night.  We haven't seen her yet this morning but she should be doing a lot better.  Well that's the short of it.
We will keep everyone posted.
Lots of Love, Chris and Dolly

Sam I Am!!!

You have no idea how many people tell me what a remarkable niece I have. We are all so proud of you.

You have touched so many lives, and have taught us that miracles happen every day. You have shown us the way to fight.

We are praying for Julie, and the donors family. You are still 'top of the list'. We want our little hero back home in Chicago tooling around as soon as possible.

Love
Aunt Mary

Sam, Dolly and Chris,

Thanks for keeping us all posted. Aunt Mary is right--we all think Sam is amazing. You all (and Julie and the donor's family) are in our thoughts. Keep up the good fight.

Sandy

PS Tell Sam to hurry up and get out of SICU--the Cubs may be done, but the Bears are worth watching. fyi...Did you know that Aunt Mary is a HUGE Kyle Orton fan?

Sam I Am! Must be a "Mary" thing. Didn't know your Aunt Mary addresses you in the same manner as I do! She probably started it...
I have the priests at U. of I. Newman Center praying for you and have since mid-summer. I'll definitely add Julie, the donor's family, and the soul of the donor to that list asap. I love your fighting spirit, Sammy, even if you're not all that Irish. Our prayers are constant and intense - keep up the good fight. God is good.
