I did not know Sammy personally, but through my friend I followed her blog. She truly is an angel and has earned her wings. We don't understand why God takes our children at such a young age, but someday we will have the answers when we face our maker. God bless Sammy and may God give her family the strength to get through this very sad time. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

Sammy and all of you have shown us what the true meaning of Love and Family means -- no matter what challenges we encounter. Your pain is great now but the Peace and Understanding will come in time. To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...

but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.

I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.

Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.

Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.

That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,

God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.

As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.

I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.

There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.

And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.

And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.

God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years

because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.

But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.

Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.

But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.

But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.

I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;

but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.

It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...

that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,

then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."

And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,

knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,

just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.

When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;

I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,

remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I will never forget coaching Sammy at Springman. With your permission, Dolly and Chris, I would like to have Sammy's intials and the number she wore when playing for us at Springman put on all of our basketball teams' uniforms this season. Please get back to me when you are able with permission to do that. I knew her as a star on the basketball team and ultimately came to know her as a star in life...God Bless Sammy and the Cipolla family.

We feel your pain and wish there was something to say to make this better. I believe Julie was waiting for Sam with open arms, they both met each other at such a difficult time in their lives and wanted to be able to recover from tranpslant together. Sam wrote a beautiful post about Angels for Julie, one I think of daily. She didn't know it but Sam was an angel on this earth, her smile, her courage and her acceptance of what could not be changed. Our hearts go out to all of you.

Words fall so far short in trying to capture any condolences or comfort to ease such a profound loss- how can heartbreak be described?? All I can offer is this: Sammy showed not only showed us what courage meant under tremendous adversity, but did so with the grace, dignity, and humor others some never achieve in their life time. The love her family shared with her enveloped her in a blind bright and warm embrace- and she stepped from this embrace into God's embrace. Our prayers of strengh and peace for Sammy and her family-

And from reading her blog, she was tougher than anyone and needed no encouragement from anyone. She was a wonderful girl and her spirit will live with me forever.

As I read through Sammy's blog (again) and read through these comments, I am overwhelmed with both sadness that such a wonderful young woman left this world much too soon, and a complete and utter admiration of what she was able to do in her short time here. Sam taught so many people (many whom she never met) so much about love, courage and perseverance. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. I will forever carry Sam's message of life with me and will try to pay it forward every day. Thank you for sharing Sam with us.

And, did you get what you wanted evenso?

I did.

And what was it you wanted?

To call myself beloved....to feel myself beloved on this earth.

I have a feeling your Sam was and will always be BELOVED.

An Irish Blessing:

Beannacht
("Blessing")

On the day when
the weight deadens
on your shoulders
and you stumble,
may the clay dance
to balance you.

And when your eyes
freeze behind
the grey window
and the ghost of loss
gets in to you,
may a flock of colours,
indigo, red, green,
and azure blue
come to awaken in you
a meadow of delight.

When the canvas frays
in the currach of thought
and a stain of ocean
blackens beneath you,
may there come across the waters
a path of yellow moonlight
to bring you safely home.

May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
may the clarity of light be yours,
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protection of the ancestors be yours.
And so may a slow
wind work these words
of love around you,
an invisible cloak
to mind your life.

Hey Sam... I know we have never talked in HS or JH. But i remember talking for a little in elementary during our outdoor ed adventures. I was truly amazed what a talented person you are. After all these years on earth... I'm pretty sure you have impacted many lives. May you truly rest in peace with the Lord of all creation....

I'll lend you for a little time
a Child of Mine, He said,
For you to love the while she lives
and mourn for when she's dead.

It may be six or seven years
or twenty-one or three
But will you, till I call her back,
take care of her for me?

She'll bring her charms to gladden you
and should her stay be brief,
You'll have her lovely memories
as solace for your grief.

I cannot promise she will stay
since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down here,
I want this child to learn.

I've looked this wide world over
in search of teachers true
And from the throngs that crowd Life's lane
I have selected You.

Now will you give her all your love
nor think the labor vain
And hate Me when I come to call
to take her back again?

I fancy that I heard them say
Dear Lord, Thy Will be done.
For all the joy this child will bring
the risk of grief we'll run,

We'll shelter her with tenderness
we'll love her while we may
And for the Happiness we've known
forever grateful stay.

And should the angels call for her
much sooner than we planned
We'll brave the bitter grief that came
and try to understand.

I never knew Sam personally. I went NIU and a friend of mine gave me Sam's blog when she found out I was working toward becoming a pediatric oncologist. Sam your words have touched me to the very core. You are so wise beyond your years. I think of you and your family often and you are always in my prayers. It brought tears to my eyes to hear of your passing. Your story is something I will always keep with me forever. Thank you for being such an inspiration and for making the world a better place. Rest in Peace Sammy.

I am so terribly sorry for the loss of Sammy. I met her briefly in Memphis this summer at the church (I came up to her and you while you were sitting in the pews, but forgot to tell you my name!)I followed her blog before Memphis and afterward. She fought the good fight and was truly a lesson in courage. You are all in my prayers.

Sammy,
I miss you so much. Its almost been 4 years since you have been gone and I haven't spent one day without feeling some sort of emptiness in my heart. Wherever I walk I might feel happy but I know something is missing. Its you. You were my role model. You were the sweetest person I know. You had such a caring heart. Through the mail, you sent me crosswords and word puzzles you and Tony made for me when I had swine flu. This was only a week before you passed. Next Wednesday, I won't stop thinking of you. I miss you soooo much Sammy I wish you were still here. I love you Sam.
