Morning everyone,
The doctors here in Miami have given Sam the official clearance to fly home. They have been working hard on the transition with the doctors, nurses, records and the different supply companies. However that doesn’t mean Sam is done with them. She will be working with the transplant team for life. As a routine, every two weeks Sam will have blood drawn with the results sent to the transplant team. Both the type and amounts of Sam's medications will constantly be adjusted based on these test results. Everything else medically going on with Sam will also be forwarded to the Miami team.
As for getting home, we have contacted the Corporate Angels Network in an attempt to avoid flying commercial airliners. The Corporate Angels Network finds empty seats on participating corporate jets to transport cancer patients to where they will be receiving treatment. Beside saving us the cost, this will allow Sam to avoid the long times, walks, lines, TSA screening, and over crowded space within the air buses. It is a wonderful program.
Sam has her first doctors appointment scheduled in Chicago on March 17th but she can go now. We are just waiting on the call that they have a flight available for us.
Since they can’t guarantee a flight will become available, we have started exploring other options for Dolly and Sam to fly home. As for me, I will be following the directions of my GPS while hauling back everything that doesn’t fit into their carry-ons. I can’t believe the GPS route goes right down the strip in Vegas. I might have to stop there to give the car a needed break.
Hope to see you all soon.
P.S. Oh yeah... Sammy. She is getting a little stronger. However she did have a 24 hour admission back into the hospital last week for yet another blood transfusion. She is still on TPN and fluids but she is eating again. Her abdomen wounds are still healing but the good news is that there does not appear to be any infection. She is very excited to finally being able to go home.
Lots of Love,
Chris
